The Truth About Creating Your Own Website

"Would like to create my own website, mate."

Really?

Do you know how many people make this statement daily?

Millions.

It's easier said than done. Thousands of people may read this website daily but only a few will actually create their own website.

There are millions of websites online. All owned by a handful of people. Because once you break the jinx and create your first website, nobody can stop you. You just want to have more websites.

Why?

Because it is fun, profitable and easy to do. Unlimited hosting is common these days, so with one hosting account, you can have as many websites as your web host can allow.

It is also cheap to own a website. That is if someone shows you the way.

And that's what I'm here for.

Believe it or not, first websites are guinea pigs. You use your first website to determine if this "making money online" thing is for you. So don't let anybody talk you into spending too much money than you should on it.

But what are you here for?

You are here to create your first website. You are here to educate yourself. To find answers to all the whys and wherefores before you jump in.

You are here to learn how to create your own website. With as minimum spending as possible.

Good idea.

You will save a lot of money creating your website as detailed on this website. But the truth is that only a few people will actually DO what is detailed on here. That is why some people will never create their own website.

The rule is – build your first website cheap, make some money from it and reinvest the money into whatever tool you think will make the website better.

There are millions of websites out there today. Some are doing well, some are not. Doing well equates to achieving the goals for which a website was created. One example of a goal for creating a website is to make money with it. Most of the websites making a lot of money are not the first website of their owners.

Fact.

They are using the lessons they learned from their first website to make their subsequent websites profitable. This does not mean that YOUR first website will never be great.

Once you break the jinx and create your first website, nobody can stop you. You just want to have more websites.

You will greatly increase the chances of your first website being great by doing all the ground work detailed on this website. This website is an expose of all I experienced when I created my first website. All the dumb moments and light bulb moments are detailed on here.

Most people run off and buy all the web creation software they think they will need. And then realize that they need to learn how to code a website from scratch.

You can't run away from basic HTML codes and CSS if you are serious about creating your own website.

Some may tell you that there are tools that will help you code your website in less time. That hard coding your website is so 2001.

Yes, but you still need to know how to code a website from scratch to be able to make the most of those website creation software. Also those tools cost you a bunch. And you don't have such money to spend. And you do not want to put so much money into a website you have not made a dime from.

Remember, spend only what is necessary.

The good news is that, once you have learnt to code your website from scratch, you will see that you do not need those expensive website creation software after all.

Those people telling you about those tools actually created their first website in a cheap way. The website they are using those tools on may actually be their third, fourth or even fifth website. They have made some money online, tried and tested a lot of things. So they are now ready to spend money on the expensive website creation tools.

Don't spend like them because you have not made a dime yet.

And please note that using those "great" tools is not as easy as you think. They are not as intuitive as they try to make you believe. There's a popular website creation software called Dreamweaver. You can go and read its reviews on Amazon.com and see what some people who bought it thinking that it is as easy as ABC are saying about it.

So why don't you save yourself some $400 and frustration and learn all the HTML codes you will ever need to set up your own website here.

All the website creation tools you will use here are free!

You only need to pull yourself off stalking your friends on Facebook and playing online games and just ...

What about the free easy site builders I hear about?

O yes, some websites say you can create your own website in 3 easy steps.

Who does not want to hear the word easy?

I had a look at the free website builders that some websites offer and all I can say is: crap!

If you want to put up a website where you post information for your friends to read, then by all means go take that offer. But I would rather create that sort of website with Facebook.

They say that you do not need to learn HTML codes or CSS to create a website.

That's true because with the site builders, you are restricted to the templates the web hosts give you. You cannot and you are not expected to make serious changes to the style of the templates. Even if you are allowed to, with no knowledge of basic HTML codes or CSS, you will not be able to make simple changes to your website. If you cannot change the color of the hyperlinks or the behaviour of the navigation links on your website, then you do not have absolute control of the website.

If you want to build a professional-looking website, free site builders are not for you.

Bottom line, any website you can set up in 3 steps, 5 steps or what have you, will not look professional. It will not have all the functionalities of a website that makes money. People will not like your website. If your website visitors do not go beyond the first page of your website, then there is nothing for you.

You want to be able to tweak your own website however you want to. And that's when you can be proud that you know how to create a website.

What about creating a completely free website?

How does yoursite.blogspot.com or yoursite.wordpress.com sound?

It is NOT your website. The first one belongs to Google while the second one belongs to Wordpress. You write the content that brings traffic to the website. Google places advertisement on the website and make money off YOUR visitors. You are left with a very small percentage of the earnings. On free Wordpress websites, you are not even allowed to place adverts on the website.

It should not be that way.

And what will happen when Wordpress decides to retire the free domain? 'Your' website will disappear with it.

So after all, it is not YOUR website.

A website that you own will have an address like this: www.whatevernameyouwant.com or www.whatevernameyouwant.net etc

You create the website. You add the content. You monetize it.

That's when it is YOUR website.

You choose the name you want to call your website. You register a domain name yourself. You decide where you want to host your website. You decide what the website will be about.

You are in complete control. That's when you own a website.

Still ... some people will never create their own website.
